NERC - The Lesser the power, the higher the money

I read with total disdain the purported increment of PHCN charges despite non-availability of power. From N200 service fee, Nigerians are now made to pay N700 monthly for no power. This is pure wickedness. How can someone actually conceive such inhuman idea; telling us it is for our good? Please how can "No light - Higher bill" policy benefit us? This is broad day robbery. This invariably means that for people like me who haven't seen power supply for almost a month, I'll still have to pay N750 to PHCN. Is this the economy improvement we were promised? It is truly painful what we Nigerians have to go through in the hands of these so called "economy builders". Worst of all their is no assurance that after we pay this huge bills, that power will be constant in the nearest future yet they claim the increment will continue till 2016. How are they sure they will be in power till then? As we all know, in Nigerian, nothing goes up and later comes down. It goes up and stays up and in most cases it goes higher; take petrol for example. When will all these madness end? They have promised us steady power supply since civilian rule yet the only thing that has been steady is the constant increment of PHCN bills. We cannot generate 10,000MW as promised yet we cannot deregulate it. This ultimately means that we will keep paying for inefficiency, corruption, injustice etc. Where is the service we are paying for when there's no service rendered?

Nigerians, we have to stand and take: by force, what is rightfully ours. If those we supposedly elected cannot do what is right for us, let us take back our vote and keep it to ourselves. Enough has just got to be enough

...And they said our economy is improving

We have been told a lot of things about our economy growing. From the CBN to the Finance Minister, all have given us account of how our economy is growing and favorable to foreign investors. The question is "how does this affect the lay man"?

From the east, to the west; crossing from north to south we can see for ourselves the "level of  growth" in the economy. From increasing rate of unemployment, to increased poverty (all na growth). Nigeria has succeeded in moving the middle class to the lower class. Now we have only two economy classes. They are Rich and poor; no more middle/ average class yet we are been told the economy is improving. This is a country where over 70% of her people were living little below $2 a day before 2011 but now are living below $1 a day yet they tell us the economy is improving. We graduate thousands of youths from our tertiary institutions with no jobs for them and they still say the economy is improving. The level of insecurity has risen to the extent that one cannot move around freely new to kidnappings, armed robbery etc. yet they say the economy is improving. Yesterday it was MEND, today it is BokoHaram, only God knows what tomorrow holds yet they say the economy is improving. Moving from Lagos to Ogun state which shouldn't take more than 45mins is now taking hours due to bad condition of roads, cost of transportation is unbearable due to hike in fuel prices and bad roads yet they say the economy is improving. There is hardly power supply to our homes, offices and industries yet we get outrageous PHCN bills which we have to pay else the little power supply will be cut-off; yet they say the economy is improving. Of recent NERC told us that whether power supply or not, Nigerians have to pay more for epileptic supplies.

Which economy is improving? Is it the economy of the few greedy politicians or are we speaking of another country entirely? Definitely they are not speaking of the ordinary Nigerian man who has no hope for now and his hope for the future is fast disappearing.  

Who Are We fighting For?

Before the incident at the Rivers state house of assembly I thought it was only BokoHaram that is fighting for someone more powerful because they claim they are fighting for God. On Tuesday, Hon. Bipi of the Rivers state house of assembly couldn't help but admit who he is fighting Amaechi form "Why should he insult the president?", those were his words when the deputy governor was trying to calm him down. What show of shame for someone that should be the mouth piece of a group of people.

Who are we really fighting for? Did "oga at the top" sustain any injury in the process? The answer is NO as oga is grooving with his wife in faraway China while is bulldogs are sustaining injuries. The guy hon. Lloyd hit with the house mace was not even a house member. Now he's cooling his head in a hospital all for fighting for his "oga".

Right now all the talk is on Hon. Bipi having a link with "oga at the top". Some even suggest that he and the remaining 4 anti-Amaechi members were given huge sums to impeach Gov. Amaechi by all means. Now it has degenerated into a tribal war where the Kalabaris are out for blood claiming that hon. Amachree their son must complete his tenure. From yesterday's news atleast 3 people from Hon. Amachree and Hon. Bipi's camps were injured in the protest.

Who are we really fighting for? Did we see the thuggish way Hon. Lloyd hit that man with the mace (though unconfirmed report suggests the mace he broke was a fake mace made by anti-Amaechi group)? Did you see the way Hon. Bipi was ranting and swearing what he will do with his thugs? This summarizes the fact that we are fighting for thugs, cultists and criminals. We are being ruled by people who have questionable characters, people who have killed and stolen from their own people.

My good people of Nigeria when we will stop fighting and killing ourselves for these hopeless few? When will we hold our stand and demand justice, equity and fairness instead of peanuts we might receive today? When will we take our future in our hands? When will we stop fighting for these senseless people and fight for ourselves for ones? Why can't we demand our rights like the Ghanaians and Egyptians have done? When do we make these people understand that delivering good governance is not our privilege but our right?

We need to stop fighting their fight. If fighting was such fun or was that easy; let them fight for themselves.

As we sit down and watch

Nigerians are the most tolerant people in the world”; so they say but now I believe it. With what is happening in Rivers state one can easily see how tolerant Nigerians can be. How can a small group of people continuously hold a state to siege with no impedance? How can a commissioner of police assume the role of the chief officer of the state? How can 5 people’s vote count more than 28 people’s vote?

There are many more questions yet to be answered. In all who are the people suffering these? We are; we the voters, the workers, the poor majority, the uneducated masses etc. all of us are the losing end because these privileged few do not care about us. Yet we sit back and look helplessly while people we supposedly gave power misuse it. The presidency (including his wife) keeps denying involvement in the crisis yet has don (and is doing) nothing to stop this madness. Everybody is calling for the redeployment of the CP of rivers state (though I think he should be dismissed from service and tried) yet even the IG is not concerned about it. Now the governor cannot move around freely as he cannot trust the people assigned to his security; the police.

I think our sitting down and watching things unfold without doing anything is causing us a lot of damage. It is high time we in turn hold this country to siege and demand what is our right. He have right to good governance, education, freedom of speech, to vote in and vote out people etc. we have to enforce these rights even if it means grounding this economy. Enough has to be enough. If not for us, let it be for our children and their children. We cannot continue to tolerate rubbish as we refuse to be rubbish.
